Manually Copying Favorites and Notes
In some cases iBird's favorites and notes may not get migrated when you update your Bird app. There is however a way to get them back manually, provided you have not deleted the Dropbox folder they were stored in before the update.
This note applies to people using the iOS version of iBird which previously used Dropbox for storing favorites and notes. We had to switch to iCloud because Dropbox changed the way there system worked so we no longer could use it. Here are the steps:
On your computer open your Dropbox account, then go into the Finder and find the folders created by iBird Apps. They are in a folder in the Dropbox folder called Apps. Inside of Apps you will find the name of your iBird app, such as iBird Pro North America.
There will be 3 folders in your app name folder:
- Lists
- My Photos
- Notes
Her is the official path name: /Dropbox/Apps/Name of your iBird app/Lists|Notes|My Photos.
The name of your iBird app can be:
iBird Pro North Amierca
iBird Ultimate North America
iBird Plus North America
iBird Yard Plus North America
iBird United Kingdom
iBird Hawaii and Palau
iBird Lite
The item after the name can be either Lists, Notes or My Photos.
So for example if you are using iBird Pro North America and want to copy your Lists from Dropbox to iCloud the path for Dropbox will be:
/Dropbox/Apps/iBird Pro North America/Lists.
There will be 3 folders in the iBird Pro North America Dropbox folder:
- Lists
- My Photos
- Notes
Next find the corresponding folders in your iCloud folder. The path for iCloud will be:
/iCloud Drive/iBirdPRO/favoriteslists.
There will be 3 folders in the iiBird Pro North America iCloud folder:
- favoritelists
- myphotos
- notes
Once you have the two folders open on your Mac, copy the files from Lists in Dropbox and then paste them into the corresponding folders in your iCloud account. Then do the same for the My Photos and the Notes folder. Enable your iCloud account in Settings and then you should have recovered all your data.
We never remove any data from your Dropbox, so if your Dropbox files were current, then your iCloud backups should be current.
Photos
You may copy your photos from Dropbox and paste them into iCloud but you will need to use iBird's Photo Center to assign them.

Here is the entire set of paths to copy Lists, Notes and My Photos from Dropbox to iCloud:

Tony helped me! I'm restored on May 15 after contacting support several times since March 25.
I was not using icloud for my backup so all my favorites are lost. No big deal as I just have to redo them. Now the only problem is that when I go to make some new ones nothing shows up in my list. I started a new list and have even tried to add to my default list but nothing shows up. What is the solution?

I wasn’t able to retrieve my list, favorites or photos after the update. Years spent relying on iBird to store my entries but now it’s all gone. I have tried but failed so deleting iBird and moving on to a more reliable system of identification and recording of my discoveries. So disappointing to have years of records just up and gone. Even my backups on external drives couldn’t help.

I created a new list and attempted to update my default list, but I can't see any changes. What should I do to fix this?

Copies the files from Dropbox's Lists and pastes them into the appropriate iCloud folders when you've opened both folders on your Mac. Proceed with the My Photos and Notes folders in the same manner.
